Apicoectomy (Endodontic Surgery)

An apicoectomy is a simple surgical procedure that occasionally follows endodontic treatment (root canal therapy). When an infection does not dissipate, or returns after a root canal has been performed, an apicoectomy is sometimes necessary. An apicoectomy, is a fairly straightforward procedure to ensure all residual infection is removed. In many situations however, a second root canal treatment or "retreat" is considered before an apicoectomy.
