There are a few advisories for patients who will be having IV sedation or conscious sedation. Patients should not eat or drink anything at least 8 hours prior to surgery and refrain from smoking 12 hours prior to surgery. Patients will need someone to accompany them to the surgery and drive them home after. On the day of surgery, do not wear any jewelry, contact lenses, or dentures. If a patient takes medications daily for a medical condition, those medications need to be discussed the doctor to ensure that they will not present any contraindication to surgery.
