Have no fear!
Root Canals are not as scary as you've been told!
Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment) is that dental specialty that deals with teeth which are badly decayed or infected. When a tooth becomes infected it usually involves the nerve tissue in the root of the tooth. The infected tissue needs to be removed. Root Canal Treatment offers a much better alternative for a tooth that would otherwise need to be removed.
The term "Root canal" has long been associated with jokes about dentistry, and has been the cause of fear among dental patients. Reality is, most people who perpetuate that fear and those jokes, have never actually experienced a Root Canal!
Modern technology has made Root Canal Treatment a common and straightforward procedure. Local anesthetic and proper pain medication allow the procedure to be performed with little or no pain. As with other dental procedures, there may be some discomfort following the procedure which is easily addressed with common pain medication such as Ibuprofen or Tylenol.
